## Starting point

Felder trains service technicians at the machine — in the hall, not in a seminar room. The technicians come from several countries. Until now that meant either switching to English, which costs technical depth, or booking interpreters, which makes every session expensive and inflexible. Neither scales with the number of training sessions.

## Approach

The trainer wears a headset — no more equipment than that. On top of its noise cancelling, the signal is processed on the server side so that recognition stays clean even while machines are running.

The technicians join with their own smartphone: scan the QR code, choose a language, read and listen along. No account, no app, no participant data — which does away with the usual questions from IT. Questions travel back as well: the technician speaks in their language, the trainer receives it in theirs.

The decisive part is the technical glossary. It is maintained centrally and takes effect in two places at once — speech recognition knows which terms can come up, and the translation holds on to them. That way the machine term stays the machine term instead of becoming the nearest everyday word.

### Deliberately not in real time

Under three seconds of delay in more than 80 % of cases — a good fit for everyday training, because things are shown and asked about at the machine anyway. That is exactly what makes it possible to do without expensive real-time services and keeps cloud costs at around ten euros per training hour.

### Compliance in the design, not in the appendix

Limited-risk classification under the EU AI Act, a visible AI notice before joining, anonymous participation, transcripts deleted automatically after 72 hours, processing exclusively in EU data centres, data processing agreement included.

## Result

A training session no longer needs any language planning: start the session, scan the code, everyone chooses for themselves. New language variants are added by configuration, not by project. What the system does not do is stated just as explicitly: it is an aid to understanding. The written original documents remain binding — especially for safety-relevant content.

> Our service technicians come from all over the world. That everyone in the hall can read and listen along in their own language takes away a question we previously had to solve anew at every session.

## What we take from it

Not every AI application needs real time. Anyone who honestly measures the permissible delay against the use case saves a multiple in operating costs. Quality is not decided by the engine anyway, but by the technical glossary in front of it.
